Villa Ghigi Park, covering nearly 28 hectares, is one of Bologna’s most charming green areas. Located on the first hills south of the city, just beyond Porta San Mamolo, it combines cultivated land with natural landscapes, offering peaceful walks and beautiful views of Bologna—while remaining only a short distance from the historic center.
Opened to the public in 1975 and managed by the Villa Ghigi Foundation since 2004, the park stands as a representative example of Bologna’s hillside landscape, thanks to its ecological richness and preserved natural character. The park is not fenced and can be explored entirely on foot, with several rest areas available for visitors.
Main entrances are located on via San Mamolo and via Martucci at the lower level, and on via Gaibola at the upper access point, where a large parking area is available.
How to reach Villa Ghigi Park from Locanda dell’Orsa Bologna by walk or by public transport
On foot, Villa Ghigi Park can be reached in about 30 minutes, walking through the city centre toward Porta San Mamolo, then continuing along via San Mamolo to the main entrance. By public transport: from the via Mentana area, buses heading toward via Farini and via d’Azeglio provide easy access to Porta San Mamolo. From there is a short walk that it leads directly to the park’s entry points.
